FindFlatmates helps people in India’s major cities find rooms, flats and flatmates. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have. It follows the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules.
FindFlatmates is operated by Shivam Gairola (“we”, “us”), 682 South Ex-1, New Delhi, who is the data fiduciary for the data described here.
1. What we collect
Account details. Your mobile number (when you sign in with an OTP) or your email address and name (when you sign in with Google or email).
Profile. What you choose to add: display name, age, gender, profession, hometown, languages, lifestyle preferences, workplace or college, budget and the areas you’re looking in.
Listings. Details and photos of places you post, its location and, if you add one, the building or society name. We show other people only an approximate location (within about 350 m); the exact location and building name are private unless you share them in a chat. If you import a listing, we process the text you paste only to fill in the form.
Messages. Conversations you have with other users on FindFlatmates, so both of you can read them and so we can act on reports of abuse.
Payments. When you buy a Contact Pass, Razorpay processes the payment. We receive and keep the amount, date, payment status, method type (UPI, card or net banking) and Razorpay’s order and payment IDs. We never see or store your card number, UPI PIN or bank login.
Verification (optional). If you verify your identity, you upload a photo of one government ID. It is stored privately, seen only by our review team, and deleted as soon as it has been reviewed — we keep only the result (verified or not) and the type of document. If you use Aadhaar, you may mask the first 8 digits. If you verify your workplace, we email a code to your work address and keep only the company domain (for example “infosys.com”), not the address itself.
Safety. Reports you make about listings or people, and people you block.
Location you allow. If you let your browser share your location, we use it once, on your device, to show places near you. We don’t store it.
Technical data. Basic logs (such as time of request and errors) to keep the service running and secure, and when you were last active.
2. Google user data
If you choose “Continue with Google”, we ask Google only for the basic sign-in scopes (openid, email and profile). We do not request access to your Gmail, contacts, calendar, Drive or any other Google service.
- What we receive: your Google account email address, whether it is verified, your name, your profile picture URL and a Google account ID.
- How we use it: only to create your FindFlatmates account, sign you in and show your name on your profile. Your email is used to contact you about your account; it is never shown to other users.
- Storage: it is stored with your account in our sign-in and database provider (Supabase), over encrypted connections and with access controls.
- Sharing: we do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising or share it with anyone except Supabase, which stores it on our behalf, or where the law requires it. We do not use it to train AI or machine-learning models.
- Deletion: delete your account in the app or write to support@findflatmates.in, and we delete your Google-derived data within 30 days. You can also remove FindFlatmates’s access at any time from your Google Account settings (Security → Third-party connections).
FindFlatmates’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
3. How we use it
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To show listings and flatmate profiles, work out commute times and match people looking for a place together.
- To let you message other users and to deliver your Contact Pass.
- To keep the community safe: review reports, remove fake or harmful listings and suspend accounts that break our Terms.
- To handle payments, refunds and our legal and tax obligations.
- To answer your support requests.
4. What other users can see
Your listings (with an approximate location), your public profile details and your first name are visible to people using FindFlatmates. Your phone number and email are not shown to other users. Anything you write in a chat is seen by the person you are talking to.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, listings, photos and saved items within 30 days. We keep payment records for as long as tax and accounting law requires, and may keep messages or records linked to a report for as long as needed to resolve it.
8. Your rights
You can:
- see and correct most of your data yourself in your profile;
- ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct, update or erase it, or delete your account;
- withdraw consent (for example, stop sharing location in your browser at any time);
- nominate someone to exercise these rights if you are unable to.
Write to support@findflatmates.in from the phone number or email on your account. We respond within 30 days.
9. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with access controls; only authorised people can access it, and only when needed to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password if you sign in with email, and never share your OTP.
10. Age
FindFlatmates is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, tell you in the app before they apply.
12. Grievance officer
For any complaint about your data, contact our grievance officer, Shivam Gairola, at support@findflatmates.in or 682 South Ex-1, New Delhi. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days. You can also read our Terms of Service.
